Mother's Day Blues?

This Mother's Day weekend, I've been thinking a lot about my babies that God chose to make His little angels. Although I feel sad, I also feel at peace. It may sound weird, but today, I felt like my babies were trying to tell me "Happy Mother's Day." I know that feeling was God reminding me that even though my babies are with Him, I am still a mother. I've been a second mother to my wonderful nieces and godchildren for years, and I've been a mother to the many students that I educate.

It's natural that Mother's Day brings a little sadness to those of us who either aren't biological mothers, but would like to be, and for those who have lost their mother. Either way, it's a void that stays with you, but what I've realized is that even though we may have gone through a loss or losses, we can still count our blessings.

When I think about what God has given me, some of the sadness goes away because I know that He is still blessing me despite my losses. I believe that He has also given many blessings to you as well. You may not be able to see all of those blessings clearly right now because of the cloudiness of pain, but I know that God is still holding your hand through the clouds.

Today, instead of thinking about the sadness you may be feeling, let's think about those family members who love us and are still here with us. Think about the blessings God has given us and think about the fact that God will continue to bless us. The apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."

I'd like to share a poem with you that I wrote entitled, "Regardless."

Regardless of the void,

Our strength comes from the Lord.

Regardless of the pain,

Our loss is Heaven's gain.

Regardless of our tears,

God will calm all of our fears.

Regardless of everything,

Our God can do ALL things!

Psalm 34:18 tells us, "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.​" (NIV)

Today, let's trust and believe God's Word that He is near the brokenhearted, and let's keep Praying Until Something Happens. (P.U.S.H!)
